Éducation en matière de santé sexuelle dans les écoles : Questions et réponses, 3e édition

Éducation en matière de santé sexuelle dans les écoles : Questions et réponses, 3e édition Image
Overview

Prepared by the Sex Information and Education Council of Canada (SIECCAN) (www.sieccan.org), this newly revised and updated resource document is designed to support the provision of high quality sexual health education in Canadian schools. It provides research-based answers to the most common questions that parents, communities, educators, program planners, school and health administrators, and governments may have about sexual health education in the schools. The 16 questions and answers address topics such as the current status of adolescent sexual health in Canada, why we need sexual health education in the schools, parents and students opinions regarding sexual health education, the values underlying broadly-based sexual health education, the impact of sexual health education on behaviour, the key ingredients of effective programs, the appropriateness of “abstinence-only” approaches, teaching about sexual diversity, and the social and economic benefits of providing sexual health education. This document reinforces and supports sexual health education in the schools that is grounded in democratic principles, informed by credible research, and consistent with the Public Health Agency of Canada’s (2008) Canadian Guidelines for Sexual Health Education.
