These guidelines were created for educators, counsellors, health care providers and others who provide information and support about safer sex, substance abuse, HIV and hepatitis C transmission in various community settings. They provide a detailed assessment of the transmission risk of a wide variety of activities, including sexual contact, drug use, body art, mother-to-child transmission, blood transfusions and organ transplants. They also outline the social and economic aspects of transmission, and describe HIV and Hepatitis C transmission. Finally, they discuss barrier methods for reducing the risk of HIV infection.
